Special Purpose Certificate in Introduction to Wind Energy with Immersive Technologies

QQI Level 5 FET Micro-Qualification

5-Credits Programme Code: XXXXXX

Immersive Technologies

With all the wind blowing across our island, in 2023 Wind Turbines provided 35% of Ireland’s electricity needs. In the month of December 2023 alone, Wind Energy provided 50% of our electricity.

Certainly, the country is a windy one, but wind is our greatest natural resource for generating electricity.

Why is this course so important?

Bord Gáis spends €1m every hour of every day importing natural gas from Britain: Ireland’s Wind Turbines cut €1.3 billion off that gas bill in 2023.

Our government’s targets for wind electricity generation for 2030 mean we have to double the amount of electricity from onshore wind and build more wind turbines offshore. Yes .. we do already have one offshore wind farm at the Arklow Bank in Co. Wicklow. But we need several more.

What is also needed are many more engineers – electricians, mechanics, IT –  to install, operate and maintain these turbines.

This Level 5 FET Micro-Qualification in “Wind Energy with Immersive Technologies” will allow you – in Virtual Reality – to perform some of the tasks a Wind Turbine Maintenance Technician (WTMT) handles routinely.

You will learn EVERYTHING about the lifecycle of a wind farm – from Planning and Construction, through Operations and Maintenance, to Re-Powering the wind farm with new more efficient turbines. You will also learn about Ireland’s exciting developments for Green Hydrogen – H2 gas electrolysed from water using wind electricity.

With Kanda.dk as our main Virtual Reality Training Partner, signing up to this course will give you access to Professional Wind Energy VR Experiences: The very same VR Apps that WTMTs are trained in before even entering up into the wind turbine!
